Moroccan FA Issued More Denials About Coach Than AFCON Final Controversy
The large number of statements issued by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) concerning the situation of national team coach Walid Regragui has raised widespread questions, especially when compared to the number of statements it released regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
The Federation had issued only two statements regarding the AFCON final issue. The first confirmed its intention to pursue legal procedures with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA to address the withdrawal of the Senegalese national team from the final match against Morocco and the events that ensued. The second statement announced the RMFF's intention to appeal the sanctions issued by CAF's Disciplinary Committee following the incidents that occurred during the final confrontation.
In contrast, regarding Walid Regragui's situation, and since reports of his potential dismissal and the appointment of a new coach began circulating, the Federation has issued three statements. The first two denied his departure from coaching the "Atlas Lions," while the third statement, released today, Thursday, refuted reports concerning the appointment of a new national team coach.
This disparity in the number of statements between the coach's situation and a controversial continental final raises questions about the reasons for such an intensive communication pace and why the coach's topic received more official communications than one of the most prominent issues that captivated Moroccan sports public opinion.
