De Jong Suffers Biceps Femoris Tear, Expected to Miss a Month
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong sustained an injury during the team's training session on Thursday, forcing him to leave the practice. Initial assessments indicate a tear in his biceps femoris muscle, with an expected absence from play for at least one month.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, De Jong departed the morning training session experiencing pain in the back of his thigh. Subsequent initial examinations confirmed a tear in his biceps femoris, necessitating his absence from the pitch for a minimum of one month.
Hansi Flick was informed of the news, finding himself deprived of a key central midfielder for upcoming fixtures. These include the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Atlético Madrid and the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick will now have to rely on players such as Marc Bernal, Marc Casado, or Eric Garcia to partner Pedri in midfield. The match against Villarreal will be the team's first test without De Jong.
