"Together, My Brother": Diaz Shows Support for Vinicius After Prestianni Incident
Moroccan international Brahim Diaz has expressed clear support for his Brazilian teammate Vinicius Junior, following the controversy surrounding Real Madrid's Champions League clash against hosts Benfica on Tuesday evening.
Diaz posted a photo with the Brazilian forward on his official Instagram account, captioned: "Together, my brother." This was a direct show of support after Vinicius became the focus of attention, having accused Benfica's Argentine player, Gianluca Prestianni, of directing a racist insult during the match. Real Madrid ultimately won the Lisbon encounter 1-0, with Vinicius scoring the sole goal.
The Brazilian star also received an additional message of support from his compatriot Endrick, currently on loan from Real Madrid to French club Olympique Lyon. Endrick wrote on Instagram: "Vini, don't stop and don't lose your charming smile, my brother... I am always with you, keep dancing."
The controversy erupted after Vinicius celebrated his goal with a dance in front of the corner flag, a gesture that provoked Benfica fans and led the referee to show the Real Madrid forward a yellow card.
