Referees Committee Admits Officiating Error Affecting Celta Vigo
Marian Mouriño, president of Celta Vigo, announced that the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) has acknowledged an officiating error in a previous match. A goal scored by player Borja Iglesias against Espanyol was incorrectly disallowed. Mouriño affirmed that this error negatively impacted the club and could have altered their position in the league standings.
Mouriño further explained that the refereeing mistake also affected Borja Iglesias's personal goal tally, noting he could have reached 11 goals in the league. The club president stated: “Firstly, this is unfortunate for Borja because he would have reached 11 goals in the league by now. This affects him first and then the team because it would have changed our result and we would have surpassed Espanyol in the standings.”
On the other hand, Mouriño expressed her appreciation for the Technical Committee of Referees for admitting the error, confirming that the committee intends to implement measures aimed at preventing the recurrence of such mistakes in the future. In this regard, she added: “The Technical Committee of Referees has admitted the error, and in this case, it has harmed us, and we have to accept that and thank them for their appreciation and acceptance and for taking the necessary measures to prevent its recurrence.”
In the same context, reports indicated that referee Cuadra Fernández was responsible for the incorrect disallowance of the goal scored by Borja Iglesias, which would have changed the course of the match against Espanyol.
