Al Ahly Secures Champions League Quarter-Final Spot After Goalless Draw with JS Kabylie
Egyptian giants Al Ahly secured their place in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals after a goalless 0-0 draw against Algerian side JS Kabylie. The match was part of the fifth round of the group stage in the CAF Champions League.
The first half saw a relative advantage for the Algerian team, who started the match with early attacking pressure. They created several scoring opportunities, most notably Ayman Mohyous' shot that struck the post in the 20th minute, in addition to other attempts brilliantly saved by Al Ahly goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir.
In response, Al Ahly attempted to counter-attack, with notable chances including Marwan Othman's opportunity in the 19th minute and Trezeguet's shot inside the penalty area in the 29th minute. However, neither posed a real threat to JS Kabylie's goal.
At the start of the second half, Al Ahly made a tactical substitution, bringing on Taher Mohamed for Trezeguet in an attempt to revitalize their attack. Despite an increased tempo during the first fifteen minutes of the half, particularly from the home side down the left flank, attacking efficiency was lacking from both teams.
The goalless draw persisted until the end of the match, with each team earning a single point in the group stage competition.
Following this draw, Egyptian Al Ahly increased their tally to 9 points, maintaining their position at the top of the group. Meanwhile, Algerian JS Kabylie boosted their points total to 3, occupying fourth place, with one matchday remaining in the group stage.
