Zemrani: "The performance we showed against Raja bodes well, and we could have secured all three points in the match"
Abdelouahed Zemrani, coach of Ittihad Touarga, believes his team's performance against Raja Club Athletic in the ninth round of the Professional League bodes well, indicating that his side was capable of winning the match.
Speaking at the post-match press conference following the draw against Raja, Zemrani stated: "We knew the match wouldn't be easy, especially considering the quality of their players and what they achieved before the break. They are a team with heavy-caliber players. We adopted a strategy to reduce Raja's danger and close down their avenues, as the opponent attacks with a large numerical block."
He continued: "Raja controlled the game, but it was negative control, and they didn't create significant danger. We relied on quick counter-attacks, and in the first half, we created three clear scoring opportunities, but we didn't make the right decisions."
Zemrani added: "In the second half, we tried to exploit Raja's numerical disadvantage and managed to score the first goal. However, a lack of focus in the game and the strength of Raja Club Athletic's central striker brought them back into the match. Nevertheless, I congratulate the players, as everyone knows the challenges we've faced since the start of the year, with several players leaving the team and us bringing in young players."
He concluded: "The performance we showed against Raja bodes well, and I must congratulate the young players for this match. A point against Raja is positive, but it won't give us the boost we need given our current league position. We could have secured all three points in the match."
