Nigerian FA President Denies Lekjaa Rift Rumors, Praises Morocco's AFCON Organization
Ibrahim Musa Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has emphatically denied reports of a verbal altercation between himself and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), during a Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee meeting in Morocco. Gusau also commended Morocco's organization of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
In an official statement released by the NFF, Gusau said: "I do not know the source of this report. Relations between Nigeria and Morocco in football are very strong, and even at government level, there is a friendly relationship between the two countries. Personally, I have always had a good relationship with Mr. Lekjaa."
The NFF president affirmed that no conflict or exchange of insults occurred, noting that whoever published the report contributed to spreading completely false information.
Gusau also denied making any statements regarding refereeing in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco, clarifying: "Before the match, we made it clear that we do not question the refereeing, and after the match, I did not comment on anything. I am completely surprised how some people linked me and Mr. Lekjaa due to refereeing."
Gusau concluded his statement by praising Morocco's organization of the tournament, stating: "The Nigeria Football Federation commends the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the Local Organizing Committee, the Moroccan government, and the Confederation of African Football for organizing a successful tournament in every detail, whose memory will remain for many years to come."
