Diaz Takes Sole Lead in AFCON Top Scorers, El Kaabi Second
Moroccan international Brahim Diaz has taken sole possession of the top scorer spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following the conclusion of the Round of 16 matches. Diaz increased his tally to four goals, becoming the first Moroccan player to score in four consecutive matches in a single AFCON edition.
Diaz opened his scoring account against Comoros in the opening match, then netted the equalizer against Mali, before adding his third goal against Zambia, and subsequently scored the crucial winning goal against Tanzania, securing Morocco's qualification for the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, the competition behind Diaz is intensifying, with his compatriot Ayoub El Kaabi sharing second place alongside several players, each with three goals, including Algeria's Riyad Mahrez, Nigeria's Ademola Lookman, and Egypt's Mohamed Salah.
El Kaabi had scored his first goal against Comoros, and then netted a brace against Zambia in the third round of the group stage.
