Vinicius Jr. Contract Renewal Talks with Real Madrid Stall
Negotiations for a contract renewal between 25-year-old Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr. and his club, Spanish giants Real Madrid, have stalled. The player currently has 18 months remaining on his existing deal.
Vinicius is considered a pivotal player in coach Xabi Alonso's plans and finished second in the 2024 Ballon d'Or race.
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS," the main point of contention is a 15% gap between the club's offer and the player's financial expectations.
Despite receiving an offer from Saudi Arabia, Vinicius has expressed his desire to remain with Real Madrid.
Discussions began after the Club World Cup in July 2025 and were initially tense due to a significant disparity in salary. Although Vinicius later reduced his demands, an agreement has yet to be reached.
Vinicius has not scored any goals since October 4 and was substituted to jeers from fans in Real Madrid's last La Liga match of 2025 against Sevilla, despite wearing the captain's armband in that game.
