Al-Salami: 'Sektioui Qualified to Succeed Regragui; I Hope to See Walid in Europe, I'm Not Ready for Morocco Job'

Jordanian national team coach Jamal Sellami clarified his previous statement regarding Tarik Sektioui becoming Walid Regragui's successor after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking at the press conference following the Arab Cup final, Sellami stated: “After Walid Regragui wins the Africa Cup of Nations and leads the Moroccan national team to the World Cup, I hope to see Walid in a European league. The remarkable progress he has made will afford him the opportunity to join a Spanish, French, or Portuguese league.”

He continued: “I said that Tarik is qualified to be Walid’s successor, and Regragui will move on to better things. As for me, I currently have no desire, and I am not ready or prepared to be among the prospective names to lead the national team.”

Sellami concluded: “Tarik deserves the best, considering what he showed in managing the match (against Jordan). He played at the highest levels as a player, represented the Moroccan national team across various age categories, and is on a good path. With Moroccan coaches available, we no longer have concerns about leading the national team.”
