Jordan's Obeid Apologizes to Sektioui for Handshake Refusal: "It Was Unintentional"
Jordan national team player Salim Obeid has issued an apology to Moroccan reserve national team coach Tarik Sektioui, confirming that his refusal to shake hands was unintentional.
Obeid posted a statement on his Instagram story, which read: "Just for clarification, the situation that occurred with Moroccan national team coach Tarik was absolutely unintentional, and it does not represent our ethics as Jordanians."
He added: "We offer our apology to the coach (Sektioui), and he has all our love, respect, and appreciation. Congratulations on the victory to our brotherly Moroccan national team."
The incident had sparked controversy after some Jordanian national team players refused to shake hands with Sektioui during the Moroccan reserve national team's Arab Cup coronation ceremony, a gesture widely seen as lacking sportsmanship.
