Ancelotti on 2026 World Cup Favorites: "Morocco and Senegal Will Create a Surprise!"
Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti has tipped Morocco and Senegal to cause a surprise at the 2026 World Cup, welcoming the idea of the tournament being organized with 48 participating teams.
In an interview with Italian newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport" regarding the favorites to win the 2026 World Cup, Ancelotti said, "As usual, France, Spain, England, Germany, Argentina, and Portugal."
He added, "With 48 teams, there will certainly be surprises. Tomorrow we play against Senegal, who beat England (3-1), and they are a very strong team, as are Morocco, who are performing brilliantly. You have to be ready and prepared."
Regarding the expansion of the number of participating teams in the 2026 World Cup to 48, Ancelotti explained, "This gives football greater popularity and visibility because it broadens the fan base, which is positive. In terms of competition, the schedule is well-organized, and the number of matches hasn't increased much. There's only one extra round."
The Brazil national team coach concluded by saying, "I expect a great tournament. Let's see what the draw says, especially geographically, because the tournament is held in three countries, and match locations might have an impact."
