Ittihad Touarga President Resigns Following Coach and Sporting Director After "Zamamra Match Scandal"
Abdelmalek El Ammari, President of the football branch at Ittihad Touarga club, submitted his resignation from his position on Sunday. His decision came in response to what he described as "a succession of refereeing errors" that have negatively impacted the team's results and trajectory in the professional league.
El Ammari's decision followed a dramatic 2-1 defeat suffered by the team against Nahdat Zemamra in the eighth round of the "Inwi" League. The match saw three Ittihad Touarga players sent off, including both the starting and substitute goalkeepers, which forced defender Youssef Qajja to step in as goalkeeper and even save a penalty kick.
In a statement, El Ammari explained that the club had attempted to communicate with the responsible authorities in good faith to alert them to the refereeing situation, "to avoid disrupting the system." However, he stated that the repeated errors made it impossible to continue with the club's sports project.
The club president thus joins coach Abdelwahed Zamrat and sporting director Adel El Metni, both of whom also announced their resignations following the same match. As a result, the Ittihad Touarga squad is now facing a genuine crisis in the wake of what has been dubbed the "Nahdat Zemamra match scandal."
