CAF Sets June 30 Deadline for Club Licensing and Participation in African Competitions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a directive to member national associations whose clubs are slated to participate in continental club competitions during the 2026-2027 season. The communication emphasizes the critical need to complete club licensing files and adhere to stringent training requirements and stadium standards.
Al-Botola obtained a copy of the correspondence, in which CAF underscored that as preparations for the new season of men's club competitions commence, national associations must ensure the full implementation of all requirements stipulated in CAF's club licensing regulations.
CAF further clarified that all participating clubs are mandated to secure a valid license from their respective national association. This involves meeting comprehensive criteria across sporting, infrastructure, administrative, legal, and financial domains, as outlined in the regulations.
A firm deadline of June 30, 2026, has been set by CAF for the submission of all final licensing decisions and required documents. These must be uploaded via the dedicated online club licensing platform. CAF confirmed that this step is mandatory to finalize the licensing cycle for the 2026-2027 season.
CAF has also placed the responsibility squarely on national associations to ensure their affiliated clubs complete their licensing files within the stipulated deadlines, thereby guaranteeing their eligibility for participation in continental competitions.
Regarding coaching requirements, the African football body affirmed that, to uphold the technical standards of club competitions, both head coaches and assistant coaches must possess either a CAF 'A' license or a recognized 'PRO' license.
It is worth noting that domestic competitions, including the Botola Pro league and the Throne Cup, are still ongoing. The local league has 9 rounds remaining, while the Throne Cup has reached the Round of 16 stage.
