Paris Saint-Germain Requests Champ de Mars for Champions League Title Celebration
Officials from Paris Saint-Germain held a meeting with the French Police Directorate and the Paris Municipality to discuss potential arrangements for a Champions League title celebration, should the team win the final next Saturday. The meeting, attended by representatives from various Parisian districts, explored available options for securing fan gatherings and ensuring the event's organization befitting the French capital.
During the two-hour discussion, the Parisian club requested that the Champ de Mars be designated as the primary location for celebrations, rather than the traditional Champs-Élysées. PSG based its request on the square's large capacity, which can accommodate vast numbers of fans, as well as the desire to provide a large-scale celebratory experience if they secure the anticipated European title in Budapest, Hungary.
The Paris Municipality, however, expressed clear reservations regarding the use of the green spaces in Champ de Mars. They indicated a preference for returning to the Champs-Élysées in the 8th arrondissement, which features a paved surface and fewer surrounding residential areas. This stance reflects the local authorities' efforts to protect the plant environment in the heart of Paris and prevent damage to the grassy areas from a massive influx of fans.
Paris Saint-Germain, for its part, pledged to cover all necessary renovation and repair costs should the requested site be approved. In this context, a technical field meeting at the square is scheduled for Monday morning to assess the organizational and environmental aspects before a final decision is made. This comes after criticism from local officials about the delay in informing them of the site selection details.
