France Deploys 22,000 Police for Champions League Final Between PSG and Arsenal
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced on Wednesday a massive security deployment to secure the upcoming Champions League final on Saturday. A total of 22,000 police officers will be allocated across French territory to manage the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. This measure aims to ensure complete control over the event and prevent any incidents that could disrupt the anticipated celebrations.
Nunez clarified that Paris alone would see 8,000 police officers deployed to monitor vital areas and ensure public safety. The French official stated, “We have no concerns, we have a strong, firm, and calm system,” indicating that the primary objective of this deployment is to counter any potential transgressions that might occur, drawing on past experiences of disturbances during Paris Saint-Germain fan celebrations.
In this context, the French Interior Minister stressed firmness in dealing with any law-breaking, stating, “If there are transgressions, there will be interventions, let things be clear.” These preventive measures are designed to regulate the flow of fans amid expectations of a large crowd, with authorities also seeking to effectively manage crowds and avoid any stampedes in the streets of Paris.
In a related development, arrangements indicate that should Paris Saint-Germain win the title, a celebratory parade is expected to be organized the following day within the capital. However, the Champs-Élysées is not included in the proposed parade plans for this purpose. These arrangements are part of the French authorities' efforts to avoid severe traffic congestion and ensure the safety of participants in the celebrations following the continental tournament's final match.
