Officially: Guardiola Departs Manchester City, Maresca Set to Succeed Him
Pep Guardiola has confirmed his departure as manager of Manchester City after a decade-long tenure. His final match will be against Aston Villa this Sunday, one year before his official contract was set to expire in June 2027.
During the 55-year-old Spanish coach's time at the helm, the club secured 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and their maiden UEFA Champions League triumph in the 2022-2023 season.
Guardiola managed the team in 592 matches since his arrival in 2016. In his final season, the club won both the FA Cup and the League Cup, despite finishing second in the Premier League standings.
British media reports indicate that the club's management will appoint Enzo Maresca as the new manager, succeeding Guardiola. Maresca previously served as an assistant coach under the Spanish manager.
These changes come as the club awaits the results of investigations into 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules between 2009 and 2018, accusations that Manchester City vehemently denies.
