"I Don't Consider Brazil Among Favorites," Says Gilberto Silva, Praising Moroccan Football Development
Former Brazilian international Gilberto Silva has excluded Brazil from the list of top contenders for the 2026 World Cup, while simultaneously highlighting the significant development of Moroccan football in recent years and its impressive performances on the international stage.
In statements reported by the Brazilian website "ge," Silva stated that France and Spain remain among the strongest teams in recent years, explaining that the French national team has consistently delivered high-level performances, keeping them in contention for titles.
Regarding the Brazilian national team, the former Arsenal player expressed some reservations, saying he is unsure about the current state of the "Seleção" due to numerous rumors surrounding the team. He simultaneously expressed hope that coach Carlo Ancelotti would succeed in bringing all the elements together to deliver a strong World Cup campaign.
Silva added: "I don't consider Brazil the favorite, but perhaps things will change if the players gel at the right time."
Concerning African national teams, Silva noted high expectations for their future potential, adding: "There is an opportunity for African teams to reach advanced stages; they just need to believe in their abilities."
He also pointed to the growing presence of African players in major European clubs, explaining that in the past, attention was focused on teams like Ghana, Cameroon, and Nigeria, whereas today, Morocco has a strong presence, both at the senior national team level and across age groups.
