Arbeloa Rejects "Radical Change" Idea at Real Madrid
Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa has dismissed the necessity of radical changes within the squad, stating during a press conference held today, Monday, that the club does not require a comprehensive overhaul despite their recent exit from the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and the increasing likelihood of the team finishing a second consecutive season without a major title.
Arbeloa emphasized the importance of full concentration on the seven remaining matches of the current season, indicating that his future in his position is not his immediate concern. Álvaro stated, "I am not preoccupied with my future, but with these seven matches; they are the only thing that matters right now." He added, in the context of the club's situation, that the team has not been in such a position for 20 years, necessitating victories in the remaining fixtures before considering improvements.
The Spanish coach expressed confidence in the current squad's ability to compete for titles again, explaining his viewpoint by saying, "I don't believe a complete overhaul of the team is an urgent necessity to compete for championships; we will fight to win again." Arbeloa has held his position since January 12, 2026, and is under contract with Real Madrid until June 30, 2027.
Real Madrid faces a significant challenge in La Liga, currently sitting in second place, nine points behind leaders Barcelona. This situation compels them to secure victories in all their remaining matches to maintain their title chances. Under these circumstances, the challenge of avoiding a second consecutive season without continental or domestic silverware is prominent, which has led the coach to prioritize immediate results for the team.
