Real Madrid Formally Accuses Barcelona of Sporting Corruption in Negreira Case
Real Madrid has officially accused arch-rival Barcelona of sporting corruption in the ongoing Negreira case. The accusation was made public through a letter revealed by Javier Estrada Fernández. The document described the referee monitoring and evaluation system, in which José María Enríquez Negreira was involved, as 'arbitrary and biased,' marking a new chapter in the two-year legal dispute in La Liga.
In its legal brief, the Royal club clarified that the discovered criminal elements and the results of additional Spanish police investigations clearly justify the continuation of the current judicial proceedings. Real Madrid stated, "Certainly, the incriminating elements that already existed when the order of March 14, 2024, was issued, in addition to the various additional elements that have been added as police investigations progressed, fully justify the continuation of this procedure. They undoubtedly allow us to declare the existence of continuous sporting corruption with criminal roots attributed to all individuals under investigation."
In a related development, Real Madrid is seeking to be recognized as an injured party in the case filed against Barcelona concerning financial payments made to the former Vice President of the Technical Committee of Referees. Conversely, Barcelona maintains its stance, asserting that these sums were in exchange for technical reports on referees, which were received by team delegate Carles Naval. The club insists that these transactions, whose repercussions began three years ago, fall within the legitimate technical work of the club.
Real Madrid's accusations are based on the specific role Negreira played within the refereeing system, arguing that the accumulated evidence provides sufficient legal impetus to pursue charges of continuous corrupt behavior. Meanwhile, Spanish authorities continue to examine all documents and financial transfers linked to the case, leaving the legal battle open between the two giants as they await the outcomes of upcoming judicial investigations.
