The Italian Football Federation announced today, Friday, the appointment of a new coach for the senior national team, replacing Gennaro Gattuso, to lead the squad in its two international friendly matches next June.
A statement from the Italian Federation read: "Silvio Baldini, coach of the U21 national team, will take charge of the senior national team for its matches against Luxembourg and Greece on June 3 and 7."
Baldini, who has been in charge of Italy's U21 team since July 2025, will take over the senior team from Gennaro Gattuso, following Gattuso's failure to guide them to the 2026 World Cup finals.
It is worth noting that Italy was denied qualification for the World Cup for the third consecutive time, after losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European play-off final on penalties (1-4).
