Napoli President Rejects Conte's Request for Closed Summer Camps
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed that coach Antonio Conte had requested the team's training camps in July and August be held away from public view. According to the club president, this proposal was met with his explicit opposition, given the importance of respecting the team's supporters who are keen to back the players during these preparatory periods.
De Laurentiis explained that Conte presented this suggestion recently, aiming to provide the highest degree of technical focus for the players. Recounting details of their conversation, the club president stated, "Do you know what Conte told me yesterday? He told me he doesn't want fans present at training during the upcoming preparatory camps in July and August." The club's management then responded with a categorical rejection of this idea, appreciating the moral and popular value of these summer gatherings.
The Napoli president affirmed that fans represent an essential part of the club's identity and cannot be excluded from preparations under any circumstances. He summarized his stance by asking, "Imagine when a coach like Conte starts telling our supporters that he doesn't want anyone during the upcoming preparatory camp; this is absolutely impossible because these fans must be respected." He noted that these camps witness a massive influx of tens of thousands of devoted fans who travel long distances to attend.
Training camps in the Trentino region typically attract around 70,000 people, while the number of fans traveling to Castel di Sangro in the Abruzzo region reaches approximately 250,000 supporters. In this context, De Laurentiis indicated that there is daily and continuous dialogue with Conte to organize all logistical details, ensuring the close bond between the club and its popular fanbase is maintained.
