Seven Players, Including Carvajal, Summoned in Luxury Watch Smuggling Probe
Andorran judge Juan Carles Moynat has summoned seven prominent football players to testify as witnesses in a broad investigation related to the smuggling of luxury watches.
The list of players includes Dani Carvajal, Santi Cazorla, David Silva, César Azpilicueta, Giovani Lo Celso, Thomas Partey, and Juan Bernat. These testimonies are scheduled to take place via video conference during April, from the headquarters of the Presidency of Justice in Andorra.
Judicial reports clarified that the summoning of these athletes aims to ascertain the facts after businessmen accused in the alleged scheme provided contradictory statements to the court.
While the judge seeks to protect the procedural rights of the parties involved through this measure, emphasis was placed on the need to scrutinize the activities of the company Best In Associados, which is suspected of being involved in selling valuable items to players through illegal means to avoid tax obligations.
The current investigations focus on the suspicion that the company imported high-value watches into Andorra and sold them to athletes without declaring them to customs, thus avoiding the payment of Value Added Tax (VAT). Available information indicates that those responsible for the operation deliberately transported the documents and boxes for the watches on separate cross-border trips to mislead Spanish and Andorran authorities and complicate shipment inspection procedures.
