Arteta Expresses Concern After Gabriel's Injury in FA Cup Quarter-Final
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães sustained a knee injury during the team's FA Cup quarter-final match against Southampton. The player was forced to leave the field in the second half of the game, which saw the Gunners exit the competition after a 2-1 defeat to their Championship opponents.
Speaking after the match, Arteta explained that the Brazilian defender felt discomfort, necessitating his immediate substitution. He noted that the medical team would conduct a thorough assessment to determine the extent of the injury. The manager stated, "I think he felt something, I don't know exactly what it is, and we have to assess his condition, but when a player asks to be substituted, that's never good news."
In the same context, Arteta mentioned that the Premier League leaders are facing challenges in the Champions League quarter-finals. He said, "We will play in the Champions League quarter-finals and the final stages of the league. It's a difficult period, but I believe many other periods have been even tougher, so we have to get up, take responsibility, and deliver what we've been doing all season."
It is worth noting that Gabriel had missed recent Brazil national team matches during the last international break due to concerns over his physical readiness. Meanwhile, Arsenal, who hold a nine-point advantage at the top of the Premier League, are aiming for their first title since 2020. The team is set to face Sporting Lisbon in the continental competition within the next ten days.
