CAF Announces Return of African Super League Later This Year
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), announced on Sunday the return of the African Super League for clubs this year.
Motsepe confirmed that the Super League will make its comeback by the end of the current year. He noted that CAF is actively working to attract suitable sponsorship offers to ensure the tournament's success, both financially and technically.
The African Super League was initially launched in 2024 but was subsequently canceled due to time constraints and a lack of sponsors for the competition.
Motsepe further revealed that the cancellation stemmed from CAF's dissatisfaction with some of the financial proposals submitted, as the organization deemed a significantly larger amount necessary for its funding.
He also stated that a contributing factor to the challenges faced by the African League was the congested match schedule, making it difficult to find an appropriate slot for a new tournament. Motsepe affirmed that discussions regarding the prize money are still ongoing.
