Spain to Face Serbia in March Friendly, Replacing Finalissima Match
The Spanish Football Federation has announced that the national team will play a friendly match against Serbia on March 27. This fixture is part of La Roja's preparations during the international break, which runs from March 23 to 31. The match serves as a replacement for the Finalissima game, which was originally scheduled to pit the European champions against Copa América winners Argentina before its official cancellation.
The Federation confirmed that the encounter will take place at Villarreal's Estadio de la Cerámica. This venue will host the match after the historic fixture against Argentina, initially planned for Qatar, could not be held. The reasons for the cancellation were attributed to the repercussions of the conflict in the Middle East, in addition to UEFA and CONMEBOL failing to reach a final agreement on all details of the anticipated clash.
The Spanish national team's preparatory schedule has seen continuous adjustments recently, including the prior cancellation of another friendly match against Egypt. In this context, the technical management sought to secure an opponent like the Serbian national team to ensure the continuity of the players' technical preparations, especially as the Spanish team enters this phase as the reigning European champions.
