Confederation Cup: "Crazy" Ending Sees Moroccan Derby Between Olympique Safi and Wydad End in 1-1 Draw
The Moroccan derby between Olympique Safi and Wydad Casablanca ended in a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals.
The first half concluded with both teams level, following several attempts from each side. Notable efforts included a header from Hamza El Hanouri for Wydad and a bicycle kick from Soufiane El Moudane for Olympique Safi.
In the second half, Wydad AC broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when their Bolivian striker Ramiro Vaca scored after a precise pass from substitute Walid Nassi.
Olympique Safi then turned their pressure on Wydad's defense into an equalizer. Following a scramble in the penalty area, Imad Errahouli seized the opportunity, firing a shot past goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid in the 87th minute.
The match concluded with a "crazy" finish when Wydad thought they had secured a late winner through Walid Nassi. However, Egyptian referee Mohamed Maarouf disallowed the goal after a VAR review, citing a foul in the build-up.
The return leg is scheduled for next Sunday at Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, kicking off at 9:00 PM GMT.
