Lyon Loses Forward Rémy Hembert for Eight Weeks Due to Ankle Injury
French club Olympique Lyonnais has announced that its young forward, Rémy Hembert, has sustained a severe sprain to his right ankle, which will sideline him for an estimated six to eight weeks.
The injury occurred during the team's UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first-leg match against Spanish side Celta Vigo last Thursday. Hembert was injured following a challenge from player Pablo Durán and remained on the field for only one minute after coming on as a second-half substitute.
Olympique Lyonnais coach Paulo Fonseca confirmed the diagnosis and recovery timeline, expressing regret for the forward who recently signed his first professional contract with the club. Fonseca stated, "I spoke with him, and he is feeling sad and disappointed. I told him he needs to focus now on the rehabilitation phase." He added that this injury represents a setback in the career of the 18-year-old rising player.
Hembert's absence adds him to the French club's injury list. The team will also be without Clinton Mata for their upcoming Ligue 1 match against Le Havre due to suspension. However, the technical staff anticipates the potential return of Afonso Moreira and Malick Fofana, which would strengthen the squad options.
