Ben Yedder's Prosecution Dropped in Rape Case; Wydad Striker Relieved After Appeal Court Decision
The Court of Appeal in Aix-en-Provence, France, has overturned the decision to refer former French international Wissam Ben Yedder to the criminal court. The case involved accusations of rape and attempted rape against him and his brother, as reported by L'Equipe newspaper.
In its decision issued this Thursday, the specialized chamber of the Court of Appeal confirmed the cancellation of the referral order, which had originally been issued on November 3rd last year. The court stated that "there are no sufficient reasons to prosecute the player." This decision marks a significant development in the case, especially after the public prosecutor had previously requested the referral be upheld.
The player's lawyer expressed her satisfaction with the ruling, noting that the court was convinced by the legal arguments presented. His brother, who was also implicated in the same case, confirmed his relief following this development, emphasizing that the decision corroborates his previous assertion of innocence.
This new development comes as Ben Yedder continues his football career with Wydad AC, having joined the club during the last winter transfer window on a six-month contract. He has played five matches for the "Red Team" and scored one goal.
The 35-year-old player had previously posted a message on his official social media accounts, expressing his happiness with the decision. He reiterated that he had always maintained his innocence and extended his gratitude to everyone who supported him during the past period.
