
Wydad Qualifies for Confederation Cup Quarter-Finals, Tops Group After 2-0 Victory Over Azam FC
Wydad AC has qualified for the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Tanzania's Azam United 2-0 in their match played this Sunday. The game was part of the sixth and final round of the continental competition's group stage.
From the kickoff at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, Wydad entered the encounter with a clear determination to open the scoring, leveraging their home advantage and crowd support. However, their initial attempts did not result in goals.
Coach Amine Benhachem's squad maintained their pressure throughout the second half. They finally broke the deadlock in the 64th minute with an own goal scored by Azam defender Pascal Msindo. Walid Nassi then sealed the victory by adding the second goal in stoppage time.
With this qualification, Wydad concluded the group stage at the top of Group B with 15 points, ahead of DR Congo's Maniema Union (12 points). Azam United finished third with 9 points, while Nairobi ended at the bottom of the standings without any points.
