Sharq Faction: "We are surprised by the delay in our travel procedures to Algeria and our deprivation of our right to support our team against USM Alger"
The 'Sharq' faction, supporters of Olympique Safi, announced that their fans would be unable to travel to Algeria to support the team in their anticipated match against Algerian club USM Alger. This fixture is part of the sixth round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
In an official statement, the faction clarified that, consistent with the start of continental competitions, they had initiated preparations to accompany the team both domestically and internationally. They highlighted previous trips to Niamey (Niger), Tunis, Bamako, and San Pedro (Ivory Coast), where the supporters provided crucial moral backing to the team.
The statement noted that the group had commenced visa application procedures for Algeria from December 8, 2025, through mid-January. Applications were submitted via the Algerian Consulate in Casablanca, as well as other consulates and embassies in Paris, Frankfurt, and Madrid. The faction affirmed that initial feedback had been positive, suggesting a smooth process for the fans.
However, the faction expressed its astonishment at a subsequent change in the situation. They explained that, as of the statement's release, they had not received any official response or clarification regarding the status of their submitted applications. This silence from the relevant consulates persisted despite repeated communications and attempts to inquire.
The 'Sharq' faction concluded its statement by asserting that denying fans their legitimate right to support their team undermines the values of sportsmanship and contradicts the principles of equal opportunity fundamental to African competitions. They expressed regret that Olympique Safi supporters would be unable to attend this significant continental fixture.
