CAF: Morocco and Senegal Sanctions Apply Only to African Competitions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the disciplinary sanctions issued by its Disciplinary Committee, following the incidents during the Africa Cup of Nations final between the Moroccan and Senegalese national teams, are limited to continental competitions and do not extend to international tournaments under FIFA.
CAF clarified that the suspensions imposed on Senegal coach Pape Thiaw and players Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye, as well as Moroccan players Ismael Saibari and Achraf Hakimi, will only be enforced during CAF-organized tournaments.
This clarification comes amid controversy surrounding the Disciplinary Committee's decisions, particularly regarding the impact of these sanctions on upcoming fixtures for both Morocco and Senegal, most notably World Cup qualifiers and international friendly matches.
CAF's Disciplinary Committee had imposed a series of sanctions and financial fines following the incidents that occurred during the Africa Cup of Nations final.
