El Mohamedi: "Proud to Compete in Best AFCON Edition Ever; We Didn't Win the Cup, But Showed Morocco's Potential"
Morocco national team goalkeeper Mounir El Mohamedi praised the performance of the "Atlas Lions" in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, expressing his pride in the national squad despite not winning the continental title.
El Mohamedi wrote in a post on his official Instagram account: "I took time to reflect, and today, what prevails above all is an immense feeling of pride. Pride in having played in the best edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in history, and pride for this team and for all that we have achieved together. Reaching the Africa Cup of Nations final after 22 years is an achievement that demonstrates the hard work and ambition in Moroccan football," El Mohamedi added.
The Moroccan goalkeeper continued: "Every player gave their best, with commitment, solidarity, and a deep love for the jersey. We fought together, driven by the same will: to represent Morocco with honor, determination, and respect."
El Mohamedi also lauded the fan support, stating: "None of this would have been possible without the exceptional support of our people. A heartfelt thank you to the Moroccan fans who taught the whole world a lesson. You are unique and you have proven it. Your passion, enthusiasm, and constant presence were our greatest strength."
The Renaissance Berkane goalkeeper also extended his thanks to King Mohammed VI for his continuous support for Moroccan football, to the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, and to the technical staff and his teammates, affirming: "We didn't win the cup, but we gained many important things. We created an identity and confidence that enables us to face challenges that previously seemed impossible. Together, we showed what Morocco can achieve."
El Mohamedi concluded his post by saying: "With unity, humility, and ambition, we will continue to progress and inspire this great country. Dima Maghrib!"
It is worth noting that the Moroccan national team missed the opportunity to win the Africa Cup of Nations title after losing to Senegal by a single goal in the final match.
