Cancelo Returns to Barcelona on Loan to Cover Christensen's Absence
Spanish club Barcelona has announced the return of player João Cancelo to their squad for a second loan spell, lasting until the end of the current season. This move aims to bolster the team's defensive line, especially after Andreas Christensen sustained an injury that will sideline him for four months.
Cancelo revealed his preference for Barcelona despite receiving other offers. He told the newspaper "MD": "When Deco called me, I told my girlfriend that I would wait until I could sign." He also mentioned that he had initially considered a move to Inter before deciding to wait for the Catalan club.
Despite not having featured in any match for his former club Al-Hilal since last September, Cancelo is included in the squad for Thursday's Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash against Racing Santander. Regarding his future, Cancelo stated: "It's difficult to talk about that because I have a contract with Al-Hilal. I want to enjoy myself, perform well, and help the team improve if possible. I wasn't lucky enough to win titles when I was here, and I want to win."
The Portuguese player also expressed his readiness to play in any position the coach designates, emphasizing his desire to improve his defensive performance and give his all to help the team achieve its objectives during the remainder of the season.
