
Goalkeeper Benbot Announces International Retirement from Algerian National Team After AFCON 2025 Elimination
Algerian goalkeeper Oussama Benbot announced his international retirement from the national team on Monday, following their elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
Benbot posted a message addressed to the President of the Algerian Football Federation on his Instagram story, stating: “I am honored to officially inform you of my decision to end my career with the Algerian national team.”
Benbot added: “After long consideration, and recognizing the honor of representing my country for many years, I believe the time has come to conclude my international career and make way for a new generation of talented goalkeepers.”
He continued: “Representing the national team has been a great honor for me, and I will remain proud of every moment I experienced wearing this jersey. I extend my sincere thanks to my teammates, the technical staff members, and everyone who supported and stood by me throughout my journey with the national team.”
He concluded: “I will always remain a supporter of the national team, wishing them success in future competitions.”
It is worth noting that Oussama Benbot was part of the Algerian squad participating in AFCON 2025, from which they were eliminated in the quarter-finals after a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria.
