Burkina Faso Stage Dramatic Comeback to Beat Equatorial Guinea 2-1 in AFCON Opener

Burkina Faso secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Equatorial Guinea in their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage. The first half saw a closely contested battle between the two sides, ending in a goalless draw (0-0).

The game took a significant turn in the 50th minute when Equatorial Guinea's Basilio Ndong was shown a red card, leaving his team to play with ten men.

Despite being a man down, Equatorial Guinea managed to open the scoring in the 85th minute through Marvin Anieboh, giving his team a late lead.

Burkina Faso responded strongly in the dying minutes, finding an equalizer in the 90+5th minute courtesy of Georgie Minoungou. Edmond Tapsoba then sealed a dramatic comeback, scoring the decisive winning goal in the 90+8th minute, completely turning the tide of the match in injury time.

With this victory, Burkina Faso collected three valuable points to kick off their campaign in Group E, while Equatorial Guinea left empty-handed despite being on the verge of securing a win.
