Scotland's Robertson on Friend Diogo Jota: "He Will Be in My Mind When I Step Onto the Pitch... I'm Not Just Playing for Myself, But for Him Too"
Scotland international Andy Robertson emotionally remembered his friend Diogo Jota, affirming that Jota's memory will remain with him during major tournaments and that he will play for him on the pitch.
In an interview with the BBC, Robertson stated: "I had hidden it well, but today I was completely broken. I couldn't get my friend Diogo Jota out of my head today; we had talked a lot about the World Cup."
He continued: "He [Jota] missed the last edition due to injury, and I missed it because Scotland did not qualify, and we always discussed what it would feel like to qualify for the next edition. So I had difficult moments in my room earlier. And I am sure that somewhere now he is smiling at me tonight."
Commenting on a message he received from Jota's wife, Robertson added: "This message will stay with me for a very long time. We will always ensure that his name is never forgotten, and that his memory remains dear to us, as Cardoso said. He is always present, and we think of him constantly."
Robertson concluded: "His memories always accompany us; sometimes we laugh when recalling them and sometimes we cry. I know he will be in my mind when I step onto the pitch, I am not just playing for myself, but I am playing for him too."
