Sundowns Goalkeeper Williams: "When You Come to Morocco, You Know the Atmosphere Will Be Great"
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams expressed his great admiration for the football atmosphere in North Africa, particularly in Morocco, praising the significant fan support that football enjoys on the continent.
Speaking in a press statement after his team's CAF Champions League triumph, Williams stated that playing in North Africa is a unique experience for any player. He added, “The support is fantastic; this is what you get when you come to North Africa, and when you come to Morocco, fantastic support.” He continued, “The fans here greatly support their team and football, and when you play here, you know the atmosphere will be passionate and enjoyable.”
The Sundowns goalkeeper continued, discussing the stadium atmosphere: “We enjoy playing in front of full, noisy stands, with cheering and whistles, because this is the essence of African football: a colorful atmosphere, full of energy and vitality.”
Williams also emphasized the importance of supporting African football as a whole, asserting that the performance of African players and teams in recent years has been “amazing.” He added that Morocco serves as a role model after reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, an achievement he described as “the benchmark for other African teams.”
He concluded by stressing the spirit of unity among African teams, stating, “We represent the entire continent, not just ourselves,” and wished good luck to all African teams participating in the upcoming World Cup.
