Hakimi: "Morocco Now Competes with Top Teams, Our Goal is to Surpass Qatar World Cup Performance"
Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, a Paris Saint-Germain player, has affirmed that the national team aims to surpass its achievement at the Qatar 2022 World Cup. He indicated that the squad possesses great ambition to continue developing and competing with the strongest teams, while striving to reach advanced stages in the 2026 World Cup.
Hakimi gave a lengthy interview to the French magazine "Onze Mondial," where he discussed the Moroccan national team's readiness for the World Cup and its aim to deliver a strong performance. He stated: "The World Cup is coming this summer, and we will approach it with full strength. The squad has great confidence, and we are preparing to deliver a great tournament, just as we did in 2022 in Qatar."
He added: "Why shouldn't we be better than what we achieved in Qatar and go as far as possible? That is our goal. We will see how things develop, but I can confirm that we are ready to achieve great things in this tournament."
Hakimi continued: "Our limits depend only on us. We are the ones who set our ceiling, and thanks to our performance on the field and what we deliver in major tournaments, Morocco is growing and competing with big teams."
He concluded: "Today, I don't know where our ceiling lies, and that's what makes it exciting. The new generation comes to the national team with a great desire to achieve accomplishments, and thanks to them, we continue to push our limits. It is a team full of ambition. We want to achieve great things every year to remain at the highest level. Our goal is clear: to make history in football."
It is worth noting that the Moroccan national team is in Group C of the 2026 World Cup, alongside Brazil, Haiti, and Scotland.
