Etta Makes History as First Female Coach to Win with a Men's Team in Europe's Top Leagues
Marie-Louise Etta, coach for Union Berlin, secured her first victory with the team since taking over her supervisory role, making history as the first female coach to achieve a win with a men's team in Europe's top five leagues.
Union Berlin defeated hosts Mainz 3-1 yesterday, Sunday, in a match from the 33rd round of the German Bundesliga. This victory raised their points tally to 36, placing them 12th in the league standings.
This triumph came on the German coach's fourth attempt, following two losses and a draw in her first three matches with the team. The crucial three points were secured by Union Berlin just before the season concludes.
Etta took over the role temporarily last month following the dismissal of coach Urs Fischer, becoming the first woman to lead a men's team in the German Bundesliga and Europe's major leagues.
