Wydad Protests Refereeing Decision, Demands Urgent Clarifications from League
Wydad Athletic Club has expressed its strong surprise and clear rejection of the refereeing decision to disallow their goal in the match against Kawkab Marrakech, during the 16th round of the Professional League, following VAR intervention.
In a strongly worded statement, the 'Red Castle' affirmed that the disallowed goal “was valid,” stating that the player was not in an offside position but rather in a “legally sound position at the moment of scoring.” The club deemed the decision to disallow the goal “unjustified.”
The statement added that Wydad has officially sent a letter to the National Professional Football League, demanding an urgent investigation to determine accountability and clarify the circumstances surrounding this decision.
The club noted that the video assistant referee (VAR) intervention in this instance “was not correct,” leading to an erroneous decision that directly impacted the match result. It also highlighted a “lack of accuracy in evaluating the situation,” raising questions about the quality of the technology's application.
The 'Red Castle' emphasized that the recurrence of such errors, despite the availability of VAR technology, “is unacceptable and undermines the principle of equal opportunities and the integrity of the competition.”
Consequently, Wydad Athletic Club condemned this refereeing decision, reiterating its demand for official and explicit clarifications for the football public. The club also called for a review of the methodology of VAR usage to ensure refereeing fairness.
Wydad concluded its statement by asserting its right to take all necessary measures to defend its legitimate interests, while upholding its respect for institutions. The club awaits the necessary actions to protect the credibility of refereeing and the integrity of competitions.
