Infantino Defends High 2026 World Cup Ticket Prices: "We Only Generate Revenue for One Month"
Criticism continues to mount over the ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico between June 11 and July 19. Many fans have deemed the prices excessively high.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has once again responded to these criticisms, offering new justifications for the adopted pricing policy.
In statements reported by L'Équipe, Infantino explained that FIFA's operational nature necessitates a primary reliance on World Cup revenues. He stated, "The main, and so far only, source of FIFA's revenue is the World Cup." He added, "We generate revenue for only one month, while we spend this money during the remaining 47 months until the next tournament."
Infantino had previously justified the high prices by citing immense demand for tickets, noting approximately 150 million requests for seats at the tournament.
During the latest ticket sales phase, which began in early April, fans were required to pay thousands of euros to secure a ticket for the final match scheduled for July 19.
This pricing policy continues to spark controversy among fans, who believe that the prices are now out of reach for broad segments of supporters.
