Fortuna Player Slams NAC Breda Over 'Passport Crisis': "When You Lose 6-0, You Have No Right to Speak!"
Fortuna Sittard player Justin Hubner has ignited widespread controversy in the Netherlands following his scathing attack on NAC Breda's management, describing their actions as a "scandal." This comes amid what has become known as the "passport crisis," which directly affected the sporting status of four Eredivisie players who changed their sporting nationality from Dutch to Indonesian.
The incident dates back to early April when player Dean James participated with his team Go Ahead Eagles in a match that ended in a dominant 6-0 victory over NAC Breda. NAC Breda subsequently filed a complaint against him after the game.
NAC Breda explained that the naturalized Indonesian player participated without meeting the eligibility requirements. Dutch law mandates that players from outside the European Union must obtain a prior work permit, and consequently, James was deemed legally ineligible to play.
The club demanded the annulment of the match result. The player was also suspended from matches and training, with similar penalties affecting Tim Giebels, Justin Hubner, and Nathan Tjoe-A-On.
After the participation of the four players became legal, Fortuna player Hubner did not hesitate to express his anger. Following today's 1-1 match against Breda, he stated, "It's not good to be prevented from training and playing because of this passport issue. What Breda's management did is shameful. What do they care about your nationality? Just go and play football."
He added sharply, "If you suffer a crushing 6-0 defeat against Go Ahead, you have no right to talk about passports. It was also about Dean James, but he didn't score five goals against NAC. He's just a left-back, doing his job perfectly. NAC Breda's behavior is disgraceful, it's ridiculous."
