Olympique Marseille Records Record Loss Exceeding €104 Million in 2025 Budget
Olympique Marseille recorded a net financial loss of €104.788 million during the 2024-2025 fiscal year, according to figures revealed by France's National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG). This deficit represents the largest in the club's history since American Frank McCourt acquired ownership in 2016, necessitating an urgent cash injection from the owner to cover the financial gap and rectify the club's accounting trajectory.
Data released by the DNCG, the financial watchdog of the French Football Federation, on Tuesday, April 8, 2026, indicated that the team's total expenses reached €314.692 million, while revenues did not exceed €188.723 million. Furthermore, the budget was directly impacted by the club's absence from continental competitions, with television broadcasting rights revenues stopping at just €31.901 million. Salaries for staff and players accounted for €153.653 million of the total annual expenditure.
These figures surpass the previous record deficit of €91 million, which was recorded in the 2018-2019 season. In a related context, these results reflect a general economic deterioration in the French league, as the total deficit for its clubs reached €466 million, compared to approximately €164 million in the previous year. Olympique Lyon also registered a larger deficit than Marseille, amounting to €208.568 million during the same fiscal period.
