Piqué Attacks Referees After Andorra vs. Málaga Match: "This is a Historic Robbery"
Gerard Piqué, the majority shareholder of FC Andorra, once again confronted the refereeing team, expressing his dissatisfaction with their performance during his club's 3-3 draw against visitors Málaga last Wednesday in the Spanish Second Division.
According to the match report by referee Murcia Ohos Valera, Piqué confronted the officials in the dressing room tunnel during halftime. Piqué reportedly approached Assistant Referee No. 1 in an aggressive manner, shouting at him and pointing his index finger just a few centimeters from his face.
The referee's report stated that Piqué repeated the phrases: "This is a historic robbery" and "I'm going to publish everything on Twitter," although no such posts appeared on his social media account. The report also indicated that Piqué directed abusive language towards members of the Málaga team, which required intervention from FC Andorra staff and security personnel to de-escalate the situation.
The confrontation and protests stemmed from events in the final minutes of the first half. A goal scored by Yeray was disallowed due to an earlier foul by Lautaro on Murillo. Subsequently, a penalty was awarded against Andorra after Gaël fouled Joaquín, leading to Málaga taking a two-goal lead.
This is not the first time Piqué has been involved in altercations with referees during matches. He has had previous confrontations with officials in games against Mirandés and Leganés. For instance, he was fined 9,000 euros for an incident in the Leganés match, where he stated at the time, "This is an absolute disgrace." Piqué now faces the possibility of a new fine.
