Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports: Evening League Matches May Be Exempt from 9 PM Closure if Compelling Reasons Provided
Mohamed El-Shazly, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, confirmed the possibility of holding local league matches after 9 PM as an exceptional measure.
The Egyptian government had previously announced a new decision to close shops, commercial centers, cafes, youth centers, and sports stadiums at 9 PM, effective Saturday, March 28, 2026. This measure comes as part of the state's plan to rationalize energy consumption.
El-Shazly stated in an interview with "Mega FM" radio: "Coordination has been made with the League and the Football Association regarding presenting a specific vision for matches to the Ministry, following the 9 PM closure decisions."
He continued, saying: "Perhaps league matches will be held at their scheduled times. Evening matches may be exempted from the government's decision to close sports facilities at 9 PM, if the Clubs Association and the Football Association provide compelling reasons for not rescheduling the match times."
