FIFA Reduces Bosnia's Stadium Capacity for World Cup Play-off Final Against Italy
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has announced disciplinary sanctions against Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica, Bosnia, including a 20% reduction in seating capacity for the upcoming World Cup play-off final against Italy. This measure follows violations recorded during the Bosnian national team's match against Romania on November 15, which will see the number of available seats reduced from 13,632 to approximately 8,800 for the crucial encounter.
FIFA clarified that these measures were a result of the organization detecting several transgressions described as: “improper conduct by the team, discrimination, racism, use of pyrotechnic materials, disturbances during national anthems, and lack of order and discipline inside and outside the stadium.” The international body also imposed a financial fine of 60,000 Swiss Francs on the Bosnian Football Federation, following the violations that occurred during the previous match, which the hosts won 3-1.
In this context, sports circles are eagerly anticipating the decisive match that will determine qualification for the global tournament, with approximately 800 Italian fans expected to support their national team in the Zenica stands. Despite the restrictions on spectator attendance, the focus remains on ensuring the match proceeds under appropriate organizational conditions to prevent a recurrence of the violations that led to the reduction in crowd capacity for one of the most important matches of the season for both national teams.
