Exclusive: Fulham Defender Issa Diop Chooses to Represent Morocco
A special source informed "Al-Botola" that Fulham's English defender Issa Diop, who holds French, Senegalese, and Moroccan nationalities, intends to change his sporting nationality and join the Moroccan national team. According to those close to him, Diop has decided to wear the Atlas Lions' jersey.
The same source indicated that the player had previously represented France at youth levels but has not featured for the senior French national team. This allows him the opportunity to officially represent Morocco once his change of sporting nationality is approved.
The source added that Diop held a meeting with Moroccan officials to discuss the possibility of joining the national team, a move that could be a significant surprise for the Atlas Lions in upcoming competitions.
Should his change of sporting nationality be finalized, national coach Mohamed Wahbi is expected to call up Issa Diop to join the training camp in preparation for the national team's next two matches. The Atlas Lions are set to face Ecuador on March 27 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadium in Madrid, Spain, kicking off at 9:15 PM. The second friendly match will see Morocco play Paraguay on March 31 at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens, France, starting at 8:00 PM.
