Benhashem: 'Losing to Touarga After Army Defeat Would Have Put Us in a Difficult Spot; Ziyech an Important Addition for Wydad'
Wydad AC coach Amine Benhashem spoke about the importance of their comeback victory against Ittihad Touarga (4-3), highlighting the significant role Hakim Ziyech plays within the team.
During the post-match press conference, Benhashem stated: "The way we started the match was not the same way we finished it, and the scenario we had planned could not be achieved from the outset. After just 10 or 12 minutes, we conceded two goals, which made us enter a phase of doubt. That's why I made early substitutions, after only 25 minutes."
He added: "We managed to score our first goal, and in the second half, we wanted to press more, but due to a set-piece and a marking error, they scored their third goal. Everyone thought the game was 'slipping away,' but with the determination of the players and the continuous support of the fans, we made a comeback."
Benhashem continued: "We made further changes to control the midfield. Walid El Sabbare managed to score, bringing us closer. After that, we pressed even harder, and El Hanouri also added the equalizer. The red card 'made you think the game was slipping away once more.'"
He further explained: "After the defeat against AS FAR, it was essential to have a reaction. If, God forbid, we had lost to Ittihad Touarga, we would have entered a very difficult turn, a phase of doubt and emptiness."
Regarding Hakim Ziyech, he elaborated: "He is a very important player, and his presence gives us an advantage. We hope to regain his services next week so he can provide us with his unique playing style."
He concluded: "We played against RS Berkane, AS FAR, and Ittihad Touarga at a very high tempo. I don't think anyone who watched all these matches would get bored; they featured a fast pace, physical intensity, and goals. However, playing such consecutive high-intensity matches can affect your performance."
