Rafa Mir Faces Over 10 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault, Days After Racism Incident Involving El Hilali

Elche forward Rafa Mir faces a severe penalty after the Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office requested a 10-and-a-half-year prison sentence for him on charges of sexual assault. According to the Spanish newspaper "Marca," the Public Prosecutor's Office sought the prison sentence for Mir as part of his trial for rape and sexual assault.

The incident dates back to September 2024, when the player was on loan from Sevilla to Valencia. He is accused of raping a 21-year-old woman, while Rafa Mir denies the charges against him.

The prosecution confirmed that the requested sentence includes nine years in prison for aggravated sexual assault and an additional 18 months for assault and battery.

The Public Prosecutor's Office also requested additional measures should the player be convicted. These include prohibiting him from contacting or approaching the plaintiff within 500 meters for 13 years, imposing an additional seven years of supervised release as a precautionary measure, and officially banning him from any paid or unpaid activity involving contact with minors for eight years.

Furthermore, the prosecution demanded that the player pay the victim financial compensation of 64,000 euros for the physical and psychological harm she suffered, which included a bruise on her right arm and what the court described as an "adjustment disorder accompanied by anxiety and depression."

This requested sentence comes days after Rafa Mir was involved in a racist insult incident against Moroccan international Omar El Hilali during a match between Elche and Espanyol Barcelona in the 26th round of the Spanish League.
